Seven services, carried out by one engineer out of one van in Pannal. The exception is emergency plumbing, which is kept to Harrogate and the surrounding villages — read that as a limit honestly stated rather than a service quietly missing.

Air source heat pump installation

Full installations of air source heat pumps, including the upgrades your home needs to take the new system.

A heat pump is not a boiler swap with a different box outside. It runs the water round your house cooler and for longer, which means the radiators, the hot water cylinder and the controls all have to suit it — and the fabric of the house has to hold the heat once it is in there. Stuart carries out full air source heat pump installations and the upgrades to your home needed to incorporate the new system: emitter sizing, cylinder, pipework and controls, not just the unit on the wall. The conversation starts with whether the house is ready, because an installation that ignores that question produces a cold house and an expensive electricity bill.

Heat pump servicing & repairs

Annual servicing, diagnostics and repairs for your air source heat pump — including units somebody else installed.

Heat pumps have far fewer people looking after them than boilers do, largely because a lot of owners were never told they need an annual service at all. They do: airflow and the outdoor coil, refrigerant and system pressures, the filters and strainers on the water side, the expansion vessel, the flow temperature and weather compensation curve, and the controls actually doing what the screen claims. Stuart services heat pumps annually and diagnoses and repairs them when they misbehave — whether or not he was the one who fitted it. A badly commissioned heat pump left alone for three years quietly costs more every single day it runs.

Full installations of any new natural gas or LPG boiler, sized for the house and commissioned properly.

Full installations of any new natural gas or LPG boiler. A replacement boiler is only half about the boiler: it is about whether the existing pipework, cylinder, radiators and controls can carry what you are putting in, whether the flue and the gas supply are right, and whether the system needs cleaning before a new heat exchanger is asked to circulate thirty years of sludge. Stuart looks at all of that before quoting, fits the boiler, commissions it and sets the controls up with you. Boiler servicing & repairs

Annual servicing plus diagnostics and repairs for your boiler — the yearly hour that keeps the other eight thousand cheap.

Annual servicing and diagnostics or repairs for your boiler. The service is the routine half: combustion analysis, gas rate and pressures, seals and safety devices, flue integrity, condensate, expansion vessel charge, system pressure and the controls. The diagnostic half is the part that rewards twenty years rather than parts: lock-outs on the coldest morning, radiators cold at the bottom, pressure disappearing overnight, hot water that has gone lukewarm. Gas fire servicing & repairs

Gas fires are the appliance people forget until the pilot will not hold, and they are also the appliance where a neglected flue matters most. Annual services, diagnostics and repairs for your natural gas or LPG fire: burner, pilot and thermocouple, oxygen depletion sensor, flue and chimney draw, coals or pebbles bedded the way the manufacturer specifies rather than the way they look best, glass seals on a glass-fronted unit, and the gas soundness of the whole thing. Stuart is experienced with Gazco, BFM, Dru, Element4 and Kal Fire models in particular.

Service 06

General heating installations & repairs

Gas capping, radiator installations and repairs, pipework installations and repairs, and much more.

The half of a heating engineer's week that never gets its own page anywhere else. Gas capping when an appliance comes out — a cooker, an old fire, a decommissioned boiler — done properly and left safe rather than left with a bit of tape on it. Radiators installed, moved, swapped for the right size, or repaired when a valve weeps. Pipework installed and repaired, including the runs that have to come up through floors nobody wants lifted. If it is part of the heating system and it is not an emergency, it belongs here.

Emergency plumbing

A plumbing emergency in Harrogate or the surrounding villages — Stuart will do his best to get to you quickly.

In Stuart's own words: if you have a plumbing related emergency, he will do his best to help you as quickly and efficiently as possible. Harrogate and the surrounding villages only — and that limit is deliberate, because a promise of emergency cover across two counties from a one-van business is a promise somebody is going to break. Burst and leaking pipes, a cylinder or tank letting go, a failed stopcock, no water, a leak coming through a ceiling.
