Stuart J Winter Heating is one man with one van, working out of Pannal on the southern edge of Harrogate. There is no office, no call handler and no rota of subcontractors: the engineer who looks at your system is the engineer who quotes it, fits it and comes back if it needs a second look.
The useful part is the range. Plenty of engineers do gas. A smaller number do air source heat pumps properly — full installations, the upgrades around the house that a heat pump actually needs, and then the annual servicing and diagnostics afterwards. Stuart does both, which means a house with a heat pump and a gas fire is one phone call rather than two.

Advice aimed at your running costs, not at a bigger invoice
Heat pump enquiries start with whether your house is ready for one — insulation, radiator sizing, hot water and controls — before anything is quoted. If a repair is the sensible answer instead of a replacement, that is what you will be told.

Is your house actually ready for a heat pump?
Most heat pump disappointments are decided before the unit is chosen. Emitters that were sized for 70°C water, a combi where a cylinder needs to be, draughts nobody has costed. Stuart’s honest answer for some houses is “not yet, and here is what to do first” — so this guide is the questions he asks, written down.

A look, then a quote in writing
Quotes are given on request rather than published as a menu, because a boiler change and a heat pump installation both depend on what is already there. Stuart looks at the actual pipework, radiators, flue and hot water before putting a figure on it.

Fitted, commissioned, demonstrated
One engineer on site from start to finish, gas work carried out to the standards a Gas Safe registered engineer has to meet, controls set up with you rather than left in a manual on the worktop, and — as several of his customers keep mentioning — the house left tidy.

Stuart is based in Pannal, a few minutes south of Harrogate, and his own site describes the patch as North & West Yorkshire. Emergency plumbing is the one exception: that is kept to Harrogate and the surrounding villages, because a genuine emergency is only useful if someone can actually get there.

Knaresborough & the villages
Regular ground, including landlords running more than one property on the same round. Emergency plumbing covers the villages immediately around Harrogate.

The second half of the patch Stuart's own site claims — heat pump installations and boiler changes in particular.
Emergency plumbing is Harrogate-only. That limit is Stuart’s own, and it is there so that “as quickly as possible” means something.
